Saturday 15 January - Update

We gave up on the match just before half-time as it had all the hallmarks of being a couple of hours of my life that I wouldn’t be getting back. The bar showing the match had the aircon well turned down and I thought that, with the sun shining out of a clear blue sky, I’d be able to waste many more hours watching a Watford lack-lustre performance when at home.

Now, back to where I was. Something is absolutely, definitely afoot on board here. Suddenly and fairly quietly, some Covid restrictions are being relaxed.

We had a jaunty voice over the PA this morning from someone calling himself the Activities Manager who announced a few things including that spa treatments were now bookable, the gym has re-opened and that there will be indoor dancing on our formal night tonight (a sea day on this cruise always means a formal night will follow).

The Jacuzzi/spas have now had their ‘Closed for Maintenance’ signs removed and people are in them.  Even more, the pool right at the back where we like to sit and have a beer or similar has had its net removed and people are swimming in it. The downside to that however is that this previously quiet space is now busier and we struggled to get a table just now (midday our time).

A fellow passenger whom we met in the lift told us that he knew of passengers on this cruise who have been offered the chance to stay on board for another two weeks for £600 each.  Trouble is, it’s the same itinerary.
